There are some places that make a mark on you with the Quality of food, service, and presentation (ambiance included by default). We visited this place a couple of days ago for dinner and were just awed by everything around us.
The Buffet spread was unique with an Italian Veg (Cinnamon based) soup and a Thai (Tom Kha – milk based) Chicken Soup. We had the Tom Kha soup and it tasted really nice.
We then moved on to starters. The Chicken starter needed a little more work, but the Fish tasted quite good. The Veg Tikki tasted great and so did the Paneer. The South-Indian style Mutton pepper fry was well prepared soft chunks of mutton in a long time.
We then had a Chef’s Special Salad (Strawberry and Walnut crusted Bocconcini cheese with Honey Balsamic dressing) which looked so nice, we had a hard time convincing ourselves that it was food to be consumed. The micro greens used for the presentation made us love it all the more. After much deliberation, we decided to bite into it and had a mouthful of it (Bocconcini comes from the Italian word, ‘boccone‘ for small mouthful). It’s an obscure variant of the famous Mozzarella Cheese. The fresh strawberries were very mouth-watering.
Then came the Prawns Koliwada. A spicy, deep-fried preparation. Some say that this originated in Sion Koliwada (‘Fisherman’s village’ in Marathi, शीव कोळीवाडा) in Mumbai by a North Indian immigrant from Punjab. This dish was the Star of the day and the soft, succulent and juicy prawns infused with flavor until the last bite made us want for more.
We were then served Vegetable Biryani (A Hyderabadi variant) which was accompanied with Raitha, Salan and Pickled vegetables. After the delicious prawns, this tasted well with the Raitha.
The Grilled Fish and Steam vegetables with capers mustard sauce (Basa), another Chef’s Special Dish tasted great and was a melt in the mouth experience.
End your meal on a sweet note! The saying is true!
The desserts spread was quite great and we relished every bit of it.
The Fruit Ganache, The Mango Tart, The White Forest Cake, The Chocolate Mousse, The Mango Cheese Cake and Sweet lancha were all really good. Wish I had all this in the afternoon. I could have continued until evening.
This is definitely one place worth the distance travelled.
Time well spent with Executive Chef Sudhir Nair, Chef Mallesh Doddla and team who made this an evening with an experience!
