Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi is a celebrity chef from India. Earlier known as the “Energy Chef of India”, he is now known as the “Dancing Chef of India”
He was one of the participants in the Jhalak Dhiklaja Season 9 Colors TV.
The story goes that during his childhood days he was a quiet and shy kid but his dad used to push him in to the crowd to dance in family functions. As he grew older, his liking for dance increased and you can always find him dancing and sing on his show with his popular lines “Namak Shamak Namak Shamak Dal Dete Hain”
Hailing from the Northern part of the country, rich in culture and cuisine, Chef Harpal is a music lover and is fluent in English and five Indian languages – Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Oriya and Telugu. Having graduated from the catering school at Bhubaneshwar, he spent his initial years learning international cuisines but realized that his true interest lay in discovering authentic regional Indian food. He is a man who has redefined cookery shows with his own style with humor and in a true Punjabi style making his television show “TURBAN TADKA”, the number one culinary show in India’s only 24 hr channel on Food “FOOD FOOD”.
As a brand Chef, Harpal Singh Sokhi is probably the only person in India having a spectrum of people of different age group following him on TV and the Web. Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi was awarded as Best Chef of the Year in the year 2016 by National Indo-Australian Cultural for promoting Indian food and culture in Australia.
After tasting success, he started his dream project – “Turban Tadka Hospitality.” Turban Tadka is a company that works around Television and digital platform. The company is trying to focus and grow at present in multiple verticals with restaurants being one of the verticals. “He owns 4 restaurants – the Twist of Tadka in Bangalore housed at Hotel Stylotel, which has opened recently, Twist of Tadka, Amritsar, an up market restaurant BB Jaan in Jalandhar at Cabana Resort, Jalandhar. (He was trained under Begum Mumtaaz Khan of the Jagirdar family of Hyderabad. The Treasury at Cabana Resort, Jalandhar serves Cusines from around the world.) “He also helps prepare new recipes and also Drive the brand through promotions and commercials.
He is associated with a brand called Sabi Foods in Australia and together they formed a brand called Sabrini that deals with a line of frozen food products. Today Sabrini has become a popular brand both in Australia and New Zealand. Chef Sokhi has also launched his own non-stick cookware brand – Happy Chef. The brand has both the base line and the premium line of cookware.
A few of us had an opportunity to meet and greet the Chef and also understand what drives him. We also had an opportunity to visit the newly launched branch of the famous restaurant Dhadoom, for which he is a brand ambassador.
The Paan Milkshake was quite good with a delicate infusion of the flavour in every sip.
The Nutella milkshake as just as good.
Smokin BBQ fries – Fried with Barbeque sauce. Got soggy pretty quick.
Pizza Pasta fries – Pizza Pasta flavoured fries. Quite tasty, but same problem of lack of crispiness.
Schezwan Cheese Sandwich, their signature dish has 4 colors of cheese – Blue, Red, Yellow and Black.
The Paneer Makhani Burger was quite delicious. It also had schezwan flavoured noodles in between.
Paneer Makhanwala Pizza – A thin crust variant with a paratha as a pizza base made crunchy, generously topped with Cheese and Paneer cubes.
They’re known for innovative dishes and Oreo Pakoda is one of them. Oreo cookies delicately fried in a Pakoda style served with vanilla ice-cream and generously topped with chocolate sauce.
